WinSTIPS 2.1 Now Available

ServiceSoftware has released WinSTIPS version 2.1 Build 0 for increased compatibility with Windows Vista.

If you are using an earlier version of WinSTIPS then you should upgrade by downloading the latest version of WinSTIPS (WinSTIPS 2.1 Build 0) from this web site.

The WinSTIPS 2.1 Build 0 Demo Install has been prepared with existing users in mind.  This demo install will not overwrite your existing WinSTIPS tips database and it will relocate your existing WinSTIPS tips database to a new database path that's Vista friendly.

As always, we recommend that you back up your files before installing WinSTIPS 2.1.

What's new in WinSTIPS 2.1 Build 0

  • WinSTIPS databases are now in a separate folder (not in c:\program files\ServiceSoftware\WinSTIPS).
  • The install program and the WinSTIPS program files are now digitally signed by ServiceSoftware.

Upgrade Notes

  • You will not be assigned a new serial number during upgrade.  You will not require a new registration number.
  • This install has been tested with Windows 98, Windows XP, and Windows Vista.

Step-by-Step Upgrade Instructions

Assuming a previous version of WinSTIPS 2.0 is installed, here are the upgrade steps:

STEP 1:  BACK UP DATABASE

If WinSTIPS 2.0 was installed already, back up your tips data file. This is typically located at C:\Program Files\ServiceSoftware\WinSTIPS\STIP_BE.MDB

STEP 2:  CLOSE ALL PROGRAMS

Before attempting any installation, make certain that there are no running programs that might interfere with installation. Make sure to check for all running programs ... that includes programs running in your system tray (See the small icons in the lower right corner of your screen. Each of these is a program running in memory -- disable, stop, or exit as many as possible).

STEP 3: DOWNLOAD and INSTALL WinSTIPS 2.1

Click here to download WinSTIPS 2.1 Build 0.

Start WinSTIPS after installing WinSTIPS 2.1.  If your full database is available then you may skip step 4.

STEP 4:  RESTORE DATABASE

If you have an active WinSTIPS Subscription then just perform a CORE UPDATE.

If your WinSTIPS Subscription has expired, then close all WinSTIPS programs and copy your backed up data file (made in STEP 1) to the new WinSTIPS database folder, overwriting the file installed by WinSTIPS in STEP 3.

The Windows folder you should copy to varies by Windows version:

Windows Vista C:\ProgramData\ServiceSoftware\WinSTIPS
Windows XP C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ServiceSoftware\WinSTIPS
Windows 98 C:\WINDOWS\All Users\Application Data\ServiceSoftware\WinSTIPS
